BWEZ: New Purchasers Announced, New Land Parcel Released

In February 2017, the Minister for Regional Development announced two further land purchasers at the Ballarat West Employment Zone (BWEZ) - Broo and Athlegen.  She also released another parcel of industrial land, to meet the strong market demand for the site from large-scale businesses either looking to move into Ballarat or grow their local operations.  Interest to date has exceeded all expectations.

BWEZ is a $30 million joint initiative between the City of Ballarat and the Victorian Government, with sites suitable for industrial and commercial businesses.  It comrpises 438 hectares of 'greenfield' land adjacent to the Ballarat Airport and is a high quality, high profile industrial and commercial precinct.

Broo is a rising Australian beer company that plans to establish a world class brewery on its almost 15 hectare site.  It is expected to create more than 100 ongoing jobs.  In addition to the brewery, the development will include visitor facilities, which will add to Ballarat's tourist offering and expand the local visitor economy.

Athlegen is a Ballarat manufacturer of medical and physiotherapy equipment.  They require additional land for expansion as they continue to export to the world and grow their business.  They have purchased a 5,400m2 lot to build a production and warehousing facility, a research and development centre, offices and a showroom.

Broo and Athlegen join a further three purchasers at BWEZ - Broadbent Grain (and export grain handling facility), Kane Transport (a freight and transport hub) and Agrimac (an advanced farming and agricultural equipment supplier).
